The Cinclosomatinae are a subfamily of Sibley and Monroe's Corvidae. The other subfamilies in East Asia are the Pachycephalinae (whistlers), Corvinae (jays, crows, etc.), Dicrurinae (drongoes, fantails, etc.), Aegithininae (ioras), and Malaconotinae (wood shrikes). Under Howard-Moore 2003, the only local member of the Cinclosomatidae , the Malaysian rail babbler (Eupetes macrocerus) is classed under the Eupetidae (whipbirds, wedgebills, and jewelbabblers), although it is noted that Eupetes may deserve its own separate family. The Chinese name of the family used here, 鹑鸫亚科 Chún-dōng yà-kē, refers to the quail-thrushes. The Japanese name, クイナチメドリ亜科 Kuina-chimedori a-ka, is based on that of the Rail-babbler. |
