1. General names
Chinese: The finfoots are known as 鳍趾䴘 qí-zhǐ-tī ('fin-footed grebes') in Chinese, an artificial word created using the second character from the word 'grebe', 䴙䴘 pìtī. They are not found in China. |
Japanese: In Japanese, the finfoots are known as ヒレアシ hire-ashi, meaning 'fin-foot', written 鰭足 in Chinese characters. They are not found in Japan. |
Vietnamese: The finfoots are found in Vietnam and are known in Vietnamese as Chân bơi 'paddle foot'. |
