- In (Mandarin) Chinese and Vietnamese, the verb 'to begin' and the noun 'beginning' are identical, that is, 開始 (Trad.) / 开始 (Simpl.) kāishǐ in Chinese and bắt đầu in Vietnamese.
- In Japanese and Mongolian, a separate noun is created from the verb. In Japanese, 始まり hajimari 'beginning' is from the verb 始まる hajimaru 'to begin'. In Mongolian, эхлэл ekhlel 'beginning' is from the verb эхлэх ekhlekh 'to begin'.
