Chapter 35: Veritaserum

(For the romanisation of Chinese and Japanese, see Transliteration. To understand the writing systems of CJV, see Writing Systems. For word order notes, see Word Order)

Where a Vietnamese word has been borrowed from Chinese, the original Chinese character is shown in parentheses.

Chinese (Mainland) 吐真剂
Tǔ-zhēn-jì
= 'spit out, pour out'.
zhēn = 'true'.
= 'concoction, potion'.
Tell-the-truth potion
Chinese (Taiwan) 吐真劑
Tǔ-zhēn-jì
= 'spit out, pour out'.
zhēn = 'true'.
= 'concoction, potion'.
Tell-the-truth potion
Japanese 真実薬ベリタセラム
Shinjitsu-yaku (Beritaseramu)
真実 shinjitsu = 'truth'.
薬 yaku = 'medicine'.
ベリタセラム Beritaseramu = Veritaserum
Truth medicine (Veritaserum)
Vietnamese Chân dược chân () = 'truth'.
dược () = 'medicine'.
Truth medicine

'Veritaserum' is a Latin-based expression meaning 'truth serum'. The translations are relatively clear.

For the pedantic, the Japanese transliteration of 'Veritaserum' leaves something to be desired. If it is meant to show the English pronunciation, ベリタシーラム Beritashiiramu would be more correct. If it is meant to approximate the Latin reading, ベリタセルム Beritaserumu would seem more appropriate.
