LOG OF UPDATES
cjvlang site originally started in mid-July 2000. The Le Petit Prince page (The Fox's Secret) first went up in May 2005 as part of 'Spicks and Specks'. It was moved to its own project on 27 November 2006.
As far as adding content is concerned, 2007 was a major year. However, the content is kind of dry and tedious and still fails to attract visitors. :(

- Further changes to the analysis of the Chinese and Japanese versions. The aim is greater simplicity. Very hard going.

15 April 2012 (Beijing)
- Completely recast the explanations of Voici mon secret. Il est très simple in Chinese and Japanese. The result is similar to what was there many revisions ago.
13 April 2012 (Beijing)
- Discovered a major careless error in the fox's secret (related to English and French-based versions becoming mixed up). Started fixing them up, but this will take a bit more time and careful work.
8 April 2012 (Beijing)
- Continued updating pages at the fox's secret to include new sources. Also a bit of rewriting, renumbering. It is still confusing to the reader!
7 April 2012 (Beijing)

- An extensive rewrite of 'What is essential is invisible to the eyes' in Chinese, according to the new formula (organised into grammatical structure and expression, with detail spun off to popups).
30 August 2008 (Beijing)
- Another extensive rewrite of 'It is only with the heart that one can see rightly' in Chinese. The page is much slimmed down, with detail spun off into popups.
17 August 2008 (Beijing)
- Incredibly, I've AGAIN reorganised the page for 'It is only with the heart that one can see rightly' in Chinese. No more 'bones' and 'flesh'. And again it seems for the moment to be a big improvement on the previous version. Still, the content is so complex that it's been hard fitting it all in, as usual. This should be regarded as a first draft. If it seems OK after a week, I'll consider reorganising other pages!
9 August 2008 (Beijing)
- Added two translations and made innumerable changes large and small.
14 January 2008 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Slightly rewrote It is only with the heart that one sees rightly (Chinese).

- Fixed up headings and sections of pages on the Fox's Secret, notably the "Bones" pages for Chinese and Japanese.
- Rewrote part of the Japanese page on On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur.
- Separated the page on Voici mon secret. Il est très simple (Chinese version) into two documents: Bones and Flesh.
- Added Voici mon secret. Il est très simple (Japanese version): Bones and Flesh.
- Improved the Javascript menu (the menu at the side).
7 December 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Slight cleanup of the opening paragraphs on the Fox's Secret, prompted by a web article I read which said that those first 10 seconds are vital in capturing people's attention. I had a look and found the opening of the articles sadly lacking. (Could this be why visitors are spending so little time? :) ) Also fixed up some navigation tables.
24 November 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- How the fox's secret is handled by online translation software (Google and Altavista).
- Some improvements to On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur in Vietnamese.
18 November 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Divided L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux (Chinese) into Bones and Flesh. Still not really satisfactory, especially the treatment of 是... 的 shì ... de, but hopefully an improvement on the previous version.
- Added a few sentences to On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur (Chinese).
17 November 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Added section to On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur (Japanese).

- Included Wakeman's translation in analysis of On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur and L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.

16 November 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Fixed up some navigation errors and expanded some content.
15 November 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Added Alan Wakeman's 1997 translation into English. I never even suspected that this translation existed until I looked at this page! When I can get hold of it, I'll add material from Wakeman's translation to the analysis.
- Divided L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux (Japanese) into Bones and Flesh.
14 November 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Beginning another restructuring! Analysis of the Chinese and Japanese translations of the Fox's Secret is to be divided into "Bones" (sentence structures) and "Flesh" (different expressions used in translation). I've now completed On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur: Chinese ("Bones") and Chinese ("Flesh"), Japanese ("Bones") and Japanese ("Flesh"). This is probably the best attempt yet at organising all the material into something manageable and (reasonably) readable.
- (In future, I may add "Blood", to represent thematic structure and discourse -- i.e., the way that translations 'flow'. This will make a trio of "Flesh, Blood, and Bone".)
24 October 2007 (Beijing)
- Again rewrote parts of the page on 只有用心才能看得清楚 and related pages.
13 October 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)

- Added information on với to 'One can see clearly with the heart' (Vietnamese versions).
15 September 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Again tried to reorganise the information in 'One can see clearly only with the heart' (Chinese) to make it more accessible and less cluttered. It is very difficult to include all the information in a succinct, easy-to-understand, and interesting way.
8 September 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Removed Dòu & Liú 2005 as an adaptation (retelling).
7 September 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Shifted Fù 2006 from the list of translations to the list of adaptations. This is in accord with the title page of the book.
- Shifted Chéng 2002 from the list of translations to the list of adaptations. This move is based on an inspection of the text, especially the translation of the Sunset Passage.
- Updated analyses to reflect the changes.
26 August 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Fixed up a few bibiliographical errors.
8 August 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Added Chinese page on 这就是我的秘密。很简单。(Voici mon secret. Il est très simple).

28 June 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Corrected some statistical errors caused by mistakenly adding an English-based translation to the French table. Hopefully it's now fixed, but there may still be errors in total numbers.
26 June 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Made a few improvements to the index page and to the pages on Chinese and Japanese translations of 'It is only with the heart that one can see rightly'.
- Vietnamese converted to one page of analysis, the least satisfactory page of the lot.
25 June 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Reverted to a single page for Japanese translations of On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur.
24 June 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Reverted to a single page for Chinese translations of On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur. All the information is basically on one page, with a number of side pages to cover particular aspects. The resulting page is long and perhaps tedious, but the previous approach was not working (people were not taking the 'scenic route') and navigation was complex and confusing. The reason that the page is so long is, quite simply, the complexity of translating this sentence. I am hoping that the new long page is reasonably interesting and not too long and offputting.
16 June 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Added Japanese translations of L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.
- Fixed up a few errors in other pages.
14 June 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)

9 June 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
8 June 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Added 'Like the heart of a dying bird' (list of versions) and What size bird?
3 June 2007 (Ulaanbaatar)
- Completely reorganised the pages on translation of the Fox's Secret. Basically, content has been spun off to individual pages, leaving the main page for each language as a fairly simple overview / site map.
- Despite the proliferation of pages, I am hoping that this will allow for easier reading and easy navigation. Contentwise, at least, the splitting up of material has made many of the explanations much clearer.
8 May 2007 (Beijing)
- Rewrote the pages on the Chinese versions of the Fox's Secret (from the French), Chinese versions of the Fox's Secret (from the English), Japanese versions of the Fox's Secret, and Vietnamese versions of the Fox's Secret.

27 November 2006 (Beijing)
- Le Petit Prince moved to its own project.
24 November 2006 (Beijing)
- Added analysis of the French, English, and Chinese versions of 'It is only with the heart that one can see rightly' (On ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur). This has turned out to be a very long and detailed analysis. Apart from the fact that it's probably tedious reading for any but the most fanatical translation theorist (and very likely even for them!), it runs the danger of losing sight of the forest for the trees and, more importantly, doesn't seem to say very much... :( Still, for what it's worth.
20 November 2006 (Beijing)
- Added another Chinese version of the Little Prince, now totalling 39.
- Fixed a few errors (especially bibliographical details).
14 November 2006 (Beijing)

- Renaming the pages and moving them into a location of their own (preparatory to adding more web pages).
- Fixing a few factual errors and adding several more Chinese translations.
- Changing the naming and order of translations: translations are now given a handle based on the translator's name and year of publication, with ordering by year and translator's name (in alphabetical order). Taiwanese and Mainland translations are amalgamated into one group.
- Adding a new test for identifying whether translations are based on the original French or an English translation.
- Making a few other changes in layout.

7 November 2005 (Beijing)

- Added some extra information to The Fox's Secret in 'The Little Prince' in Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese translation.
29 May 2005 (Macau)
- Made some changes and additions to The Fox's Secret in 'The Little Prince' in Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese translation.
27 May 2005 (Macau)
